The Kindergarten Year — 36 Weeks, From First Sounds to First Stories

Nine months. One kitchen table. Twenty-five gentle minutes a day.

The Kindergarten Year: all nine monthly covers

A complete print-at-home kindergarten curriculum built on synthetic phonics — the method that starts with sounds, not memorizing. Every day is planned: 20-25 minutes, four short blocks, a script that tells you exactly what to say. By Month 1, Week 4, four real words are on the page.

  • 36 weeks · 9 monthly books · 394 pages
  • Phonics, reading, writing & math to 100 — one gentle day at a time
  • US Letter and A4 · standard and low-ink editions of every page

Nine months, one journey

Each month is its own little book with its own theme — and each one hands the next one exactly what it needs.

1 · My Big DayFirst sounds s-a-t-p — and by Week 4, four real words: at, sat, tap, pat.
2 · Fall Around MeNew sounds, teen numbers, and the first two-word phrases.
3 · Family & HelpersThe first tricky word (“the”), met face to face. Adding to 5.
4 · Winter LightThe first three-word sentences: I can run. Read it, then go prove it.
5 · Snow & WeatherA real story page every single week, plus take-away math.
6 · Animals in WinterFour-line stories — a sick pup, a snug bug — and counting by tens.
7 · Growing ThingsThe alphabet gets finished, and the first letter teams arrive: sh, ch.
8 · Bugs & DiscoveriesCounting to 100 — and words written all alone in sound boxes.
9 · Ready for First GradeThe Victory Page, read start to finish alone — and the diploma.

The method: sounds first, stories soon

Synthetic phonics means your child learns the sounds letters make and how to blend them — s…a…t… sat! — instead of memorizing word lists. Sounds first, then blending, then decodable stories — made gentle enough for a kitchen table.

You don’t need to be a teacher. Every week has a Teacher Talk box: what to say, what to ask, what to do if it isn’t clicking, and what “done” looks like. The clock on each block is a promise — when time is up, you’re done.

Fridays are review & games. Always. Never anything new on a Friday — just replaying the week’s favorites and coloring the week’s star.

Tricky words come one at a time. Three all year (the, I, to), each one explained face to face — never a list to memorize.

Real pages from the real files

This is exactly what you print — straight out of the download.

You never print 394 pages

You print this week’s. Each monthly book is its own PDF — print a week at a time, or just the pages your child asks for again.

Every page comes four ways: US Letter and A4, each in a standard and a low-ink edition that prints beautifully in black and white — your child adds the color, not your cartridge.

The download link arrives by email the moment you check out, and it stays yours — every future update included, at no extra cost. Nothing ships, nothing to cancel, no app to install. You need a printer, a pencil, and something to count with.

If something isn’t right, we fix it

Digital files can’t be returned, so all sales are final — but we’d rather fix a problem than keep your money. If a download won’t open, a page is missing or corrupted, or a file doesn’t match what’s described here, email hello@printandplaypreschool.com within 30 days and we’ll fix it, send replacement files, or refund you where that’s the right answer. Questions parents ask

What age is this for?

It’s a kindergarten-level curriculum — most families start it around age 5, or whenever their child is ready for gentle, daily kindergarten work. If your child is 3-4, start with our Complete Preschool Year instead (or take the bundle and have both).

Do I need teaching experience?

No. Every week includes a Teacher Talk script: what to say, what to ask, a fallback if it isn’t clicking, and what “done” looks like. You open the page and read the box.

How long is a school day with this?

20-25 minutes, in four short blocks with the minutes printed on each one — a 2-minute warm-up, a sound routine, one new thing, and pencil time. When the clock says done, you’re done. Fridays are review and games only.

Is anything shipped to me?

No — it’s a digital download. The link arrives by email right after checkout. You print at home and can reprint any page forever.

I’m outside the US. Will it fit my paper?

Yes. Every page comes in A4 as well as US Letter, in the same download. Pick your size and ignore the other.

How much ink will this cost me?

Less than you fear: every single page also comes in a low-ink edition — clean outlines, no heavy color fills. Print the low-ink set in black and white and let your child bring the color.

What if my child already knows some letters?

Perfect — the early weeks become a quick warm-up, and the Friday review days are built for skipping ahead without missing a skill. The blending work starts in Week 3 of Month 1, and that’s where the new ground begins.
